Since we are experts on office products, including copiers, laser printers, production printing, and multifunction devices, we spend a lot of time thinking about this equipment and the supplies they need to function properly. On the other hand, we don’t always spend a lot of time talking about those necessities, so we decided to so that.

Here are some fun fact and interesting tidbits about paper, ink, and more.

More than Just Paper

Print and copy paper falls into six major categories:

  • Multi-purpose paper

  • Laser printer paper

  • Inkjet printer paper

  • Color copier paper

  • Security paper

  • Recycled paper

Although recycled paper is often considered a separate group, paper in all of the other categories is available as a recycled product.

Worth Its Weight

Do you know how paper weight is measured? A ream of paper is 500 sheets, and the weight of a ream varies between 16 and 32 pounds. So, the more paper weighs, the thicker it is. Typically, 20-pound weight is standard for everyday use; considered thicker paper for important or formal documents.

If you need a lot a paper, consider this: a ream is 500 pages, and a case contains 10 reams, which equals 5,000 sheets. A pallet contains 40 cases for a total of 200,000 sheets of paper.

Grey Makes the Hulk Angry

When the Incredible Hulk was originally created in the 1960s, he was actually gray so as not to be associated with any particular race or ethnicity. Unfortunately, due to coloration issues, it was difficult to maintain the quality of the gray tone—so the Hulk was light gray on some pages and dark gray on others. So the decision was made to change him to that iconic green, which was an ink color more easily controlled during printing. Super fans might remember that the gray Hulk did make some later appearances as one of the characters alter egos.
